Legendary artist Syd Mead will be touring Australia this month to celebrate 40 years of his life as a designer with the premiere screening of the documentary “VISUAL FUTURIST: The Art and Life of Syd Mead.” He was the visionary artist on movies such as Blade Runner, Tron, Star Trek The Motion Picture, Aliens and 2010. In Sydney the event with be hosted at the Hayden Orpheum Picture Place with a on stage Q&A session after the screening of the documentary with Syd Mead.

followed by an on stage interview with Syd Mead, hosted by Jamie Leonarder (FBI, SBS)

“My name is james phillips williams. most everyone calls me jp. i have been a designer in new york for 20 years. i started this blog at the urging of my friends and fellow designers who were familiar with my manic collecting. my collections are varied but generally have to do with typography or design. i endeavor to find what’s special in the mundane and highlight what makes it so to me. i hope you will concur!”

Norman Saunders

In 1967 Norman Saunders was hired to paint the “LOVE LETTERS” series and he spontaneously proposed a new idea for a different alphabet series based on these twisted creatures which are contorted into letter shapes. They all have transluscent balloon-like skin which is bulging under constrained pressure and yet they all have nutty gleeful expressions.
